Our kiddos typically wake up at 5:30 in the morning. No. Matter. What. There is the random morning where they’ll still be sleeping and we wake up with a start when our bodies realize it’s already 6am or perhaps 6:15. We look at each other and for a split second wonder, hope, pray, doubt that maybe this is a new trend. Then the kids hear our breathing has changed and Buggy comes pounding out of his room saying his tummy is ready for oatmeal and Freddy begins banging on the side of his crib making baby dragon sounds.
Alas there is a time between first breakfast and second breakfast when most people are just beginning to wake up and it’s still pitch black outside that we look for ways to entertain our tot. A few years ago we were researching ways to be active with a baby when we came across free yoga videos for kids on youtube. Many of them were pretty boring but we found one channel that was awesome. Cosmic Kids Yoga is amazing! The yoga instructor is Jaime and her following has grown immensely over the past year or so. Her videos have only gotten better and they have expanded to include lesson plans, teacher training and Zen Den which encourages young children to be mindful. Each episode follows a storyline, which I think is pretty brilliant for keeping the attention of young children. Our personal favorites include Popcorn the Dolphin, Tiny the T-Rex and most recently STAR WARS! That’s right people, Star Wars yoga for your kiddos. Check it out, you won’t regret it!
So now we do Cosmic Kids videos on the weekend in-between breakfasts and periodically during the week. Buggy super loves it and will follow along for the most part independently. I’m sure baby Freddy will be joining him in a year or two. We just think it’s so cool that our little one does yoga and can be entertained for a chunk of time. Yay us!
How do you keep your kids entertained when it’s just tooooo early? Have you tried yoga or some other youtube videos that engage your kids physically? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
